Katherine Gallagher, Senior Staff Attorney at Center for Constitutional Rights and Vice President of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH)
Ales Bialatski has been arrested for doing no more than working to ensure respect for the fundamental rights of all citizens of Belarus. The promotion and defense of human rights is not a crime. Ales must be released immediately.
Sophie Bessis, FIDH Deputy Secretary General
As a member of the FIDH International Board, I wish to express my entire solidarity with Ales, and I join all those who are calling for his immediate release.
Isabelle Autissier, round-the-world sailor and FIDH ambassador
We will not leave Aliaksandr Bialiatski, FIDH Vice President, defenceless. He must be immediately and unconditionally released. In the meantime, we hold the Belarus Government responsible for anything that may happen to him, in view of the terrible conditions under which he is detained.

It is with shock and anger that I received the news about the arrest of our dear friend Aliaksandr. I am at FIDH disposal, and time, to do whatever is needed to show solidarity, to assist in his release, and to help him and his family struggle against this oppressive regime.
Karim Lahidji, President of the Human Rights Ligue in Iran, FIDH Vice-President
Well do I know the dangers that confront defenders of democracy and Human Rights in totalitarian or authoritarian States. I salute your combat, you courage, and I can assure you that we are, all of us, by your side. I wish you a prompt release and a speedy retourn to your home and your fight.
All the best.
Altsean-Burma, Alternative Acean Network on Burma campaigns, advocacy and capacity-building for humain rightscampaigns
Altsean-Burma strongly condemns the arbitrary detention of Aliaksandr Bialiatski and calls for his immediate and unconditional release. Mr Bialiatski has been targeted with official harassment through the state-controlled media and a series of threats on his personal safety and liberty. His work to promote and defend human rights in Belarus and beyond, makes him one of Belarus’ internationally respected citizens. The Belarus authorities are urged to immediately and unconditionally release Mr Bialiatski and to allow the people of Belarus to enjoy their human rights under international law. Their systematic suppression of human rights including the harassment of Mr Bialiatski and other human rights defenders tarnish the image of Belarus.
