A case against Ales Byalyatski will be considered by the Pershamaiski district court of Minsk.
BelaPAN has learnt this news from the senior aid for Minsk’s prosecutor, Syarhei Balashou.
The criminal case was sent to court on October 4. The measure of restraint for Byalyatski was not changed – he remains in custody.
A prominent Belarusian human rights activist, Vice-President of the International Federation for Human Rights, Ales Bialiatski, has been in custody since August 4. He is charged with violating part 2 of article 243 of the Criminal Code (tax evasion on an especially large scale).
As reported earlier, he faced criminal prosecution after the Ministry of Justice of Lithuania and Polish General Prosecutor’s Office revealed information about his foreign assets to the Belarusian authorities. The authorities of these countries apologized to Bialiatski and his family and also suspended cooperation with Belarus in legal assistance contracts.
International human rights groups, the leadership of the EU, the US and other democratic countries urge to release Bialiatski.
