Marek Migalski joined the international campaign “Day of solidarity with civil society and human rights movement in Belarus” and made a following statement on August 4 :
With a great pleasure I am joining the action of solidarity with Ales Bialiatski, the Viasna Human Rights Centre chairperson, who, exactly one year ago, was arrested and sentenced to four and half years of imprisonment. I have monitored the situation of Ales Bialiatski for a long time and I feel in duty to make his case public. It is on us to take full responsibility to release him, as it was a Polish prosecutor who delivered Bialiatski to the Belarusian regime, revealing information regarding his private bank account used to support the Belarusian opposition.
Ales Bialiatski by his attitude gives an example of steadfastness in a fight for freedom. Therefore, I am honoured to support Bialiatskis’ candidature for the Peace Nobel Prize.
I hope that by this action we not only express our solidarity with Ales Bialiatski, but also point out the severe situation of social activists in Belarus, who very often are imprisoned because of their political believes.
