Ales Bialiatski – imprisoned human rights defender in Belarus

Ales Bialiatski, head of the Belarusian human rights organisation Viasna, has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison on tax evasion charges. In August 2011 he has been detained for a year and the pressure on him increases in prison. Ales has recently received three reprimands. His food rations and visiting hours are limited and the financial compensation for work performed in prison has been lowered.

In this short video report from Belarus, Ales’ wife and colleagues speak about their concern for how he and the other political prisoners are being treated.
