Bialiatski is shortlisted for the 2012 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought

The imprisoned Belarusian human rights activist Ales Bialiatski has been nominated for the annual Sakharov Prize on August 27, 2012.

Today, foreign affairs committee and development committee voted and chose 3 finalists shortlisted for the 2012 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought : Ales Bialiatski, Pussy Riot and Nasrin Sotoudeh and Jafar Panahi

The laureate will be announced on Friday October 26 following a decision of the Conference of Presidents. The award ceremony will be held on December 12 in Strasbourg.

The three finalists were chosen from five nominations made by political groups or groups of more than 40 MEPs.
