The authorities of penal colony No. 2 in Babruisk isolates a political prisoner from other inmates.
BelaPAN news agency learnt it from Bialiatski’s colleague Valiantin Stefanovich.
He has not received letters from Bialiatski since October. “Bialiatski’s latest big letter was after his birthday. I worry that he has stopped writing. He possibly answers to hundreds of congratulations he received in prison,” Stefanovich said.
The human rights activist says Bialiatski is always optimistic in letters. “But the information we know doesn’t sound optimistic. The prison authorities want to isolate Bialiatski. They press on the people who talk to Bialiatski and threaten not to grant early release to them and impose other sanctions. Prison atmosphere is very difficult for Bialiatski,” Stefanovich says.
He reminded that Bialiatski was given the status of “persistent violator of prison rules”. “We know about seven disciplinary sanctions imposed on him. In this regard, he was deprived of all food parcels and visits, both short-term and long-term ones. He is in complete isolation,” the human rights activist stressed.
Stefanovich worries about Bialiatski’s health: “He wrote he has problems with his back.”
