Ales Bialiatski has been deprived of all meetings scheduled for the next six months. On 13 February 2013 this information was confirmed by the administration of the Babruisk colony #2 where he is currently kept.
In 2012 the imprisoned head of the HRC “Viasna” was deprived of one out of three short meetings and one of the two long meetings with his relatives. As Ales Bialiatski learned on 5 February, this new year he has seen him be deprived of another long meeting as well as one short meeting.
Thus, Ales’ next meeting is expected to take place no earlier than August 2012.
Human rights defenders consider this increase in pressure towards Ales Bialiatski and other political prisoners as a desperate attempt of the Belarusian authorities to force the EU to the renewal of the dialog.
