Radio Liberty reports that winner of the Eurovision contest Loreen sent her greetings to Ales Bialiatski, the Belarusian political prisoner, during a concert for participants in an international conference on security issues for human rights defenders. She met Bialiatski’s family in Minsk last year.
Tatyana Revyako, Bialiatski’s colleague at Viasna, was there. “Loreen gave a concert during the conference. You’ll recall that she came to Belarus last summer and met with human rights defenders and with Ales’s wife Natalya Pinchuk. During the concert, Loreen mentioned Ales to the audience. So we can see that she has not forgotten her trip or Ales. She sent her best wishes to him and too all human rights defenders who have paid for their activities with their freedom.”
This conference was organized by the group Civil Rights Defenders. Representatives of over 20 countries participated in the forum, where they discussed how they could help their colleagues. According to Revyako, Belarus was mentioned numerous times, as was Bialiatski, who is the head of the Viasna Human Rights Center.
