Freedom to Bialiatski! in streets of Istanbul

Participants in the 38th Congress of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), which has started yesterday in Istanbul, held a rally to demand the release of prominent human rights defenders, FIDH Vice-President Ales Bialiatski and Nabeel Rajab, FIDH Deputy Secretary General.

“After the opening event of the first day was over, participants in the Congress marched along the streets of Istanbul chanting the slogans “Freedom for Ales!” and “Freedom for Nabeel!” They also demanded to release the Turkish journalists and human rights defenders, currently in prisons on political grounds,” says Viasna’s deputy chairman Valiantsin Stefanovich, who represents Belarus at the Congress.

On 23-27 May Istanbul hosts the 38th Congress of the International Human Rights Federation (FIDH), which is attended by the representative of over 200 NGOs from 130 countries. The event’s main topic is “Political transition processes and human rights: experience and challenges”.
