Ales Bialiatski, the imprisoned leader of the Human Rights Center “Viasna” and vice-president of the International Federation for Human Rights, will celebrate his 51st birthday on September 25. Since August 4, 2011, the human rights defender has been behind bars, first in the detention center in Minsk, and eventually in the Babruisk-based penal colony No. 2.
For a third time in a row, Ales Bialiatski has not been able to celebrate his birthday together with his family, friends and colleagues. However, each of us has the opportunity to congratulate Ales by sending him your kind words of support and sincere wishes. There, behind prison walls, these birthday wishes will remind to the human rights defender, who has been protecting the rights of the ordinary people for 15 years, that he is not alone, that people remember him and hope for his prompt release.
