OSCE media freedom representative urges Belarus to reform media regulations

There is an urgent need to reform and liberalize Belarus’ media regulations, Dunja Mijatovic, the OSCE representative on freedom of the media, said in Minsk on Tuesday while meeting with members of the country’s lower parliamentary chamber, the House of Representatives.

I say this with full respect of the Belarusian authorities, but at the same time, my role it to emphasize and remind the authorities of their OSCE media freedom commitments, she said.

Ms. Mijatovic said that her office had earlier made a legal evaluation of Belarus’ Media Law, and that the law should be revised.

BAJ website hacked

The website of the Belarusian Association of Journalists www.baj.by has become the fourth website hacked in the last few days.

The website of the Belarusian Association of Journalists has stopped functioning due to a DDoS attack. The denial of service may be caused by the article dedicated to the recent attacks on other websites, press sectary of the organization Barys Haretski said.

Haretski: “The attack started about 30 minutes after the publication of the article “Why do they hack independent websites?”. We are trying to find out where the attack is coming from.”

The website of Charter’97 was attacked on Tuesday. Belarusian Partisan was hacked on Thursday and the hackers claimed that other resources were in danger too...
